The Latest trend in fitness right now is a “micro workout.” 30 minutes, to just under an hour, express paced training at your convenience. Maybe you wear a heart rate monitor or see your stats on a screen. Maybe you are wearing boxing gloves at “boxing class.” Maybe you get an individual trainer or no set class times. These fitness classes cater to your convenience, right? Sounds great – in theory. It’s important to make sure that you are being taught proper techniques when working out.
Whether working with dumbbells, kettlebells, or boxing – technique is just as important as calories burned. Proper technique can help prevent injury and enhance your workout. Pay attention to whether or not your coach or trainer teaches you form, and proper body position, or makes corrections when performing training movements. Enthusiasm is awesome – but so is good technique. If not, consider searching for a fitness program with coaches that teach you how to do the movement. Simply shouting out instructions is not enough. Take pride in learning to train and work out with skill. Your body will thank you for it.
